The study, carried out for the Magyar Kerékpárosklub (Hungarian Cycling Club) by Idea Institute with support from the government agency Active Hungary, highlights that Hungary has a high proportion of people using bicycles in daily life. About 60 % of adults cycle, and one-fifth do so nearly every day.
Compared to the Czech Republic, cycling in Hungary is more commonly used as a regular means of transport. Both countries, however, face the same barrier: people would cycle much more if the infrastructure were safer, routes better connected, and traffic calmer. Strengthening investments, as recommended by the Hungarian Cycling Club and the study’s authors, is therefore also a challenge for the Czech Republic.
