Přehlídku filmů Městem pořádá od roku 2019 spolek AutoMat. Letos se vzhledem 20. výročí fungování spolku tematicky zaměříme na cyklodopravu.

Předfilm Přechod
(2022, ČR, 7 min. 55 s., režie T. Plavecká)

Před 20 lety na přechodu pro chodce v pražské Čimické ulici přejelo auto muže. Byl to můj táta. Přes ten přechod jsem několik let nemohla chodit. Dnes po něm chodím denně. Krátký poetický experimentální film z místa, které má pro mě zvláštní význam, je nahlédnutím do vztahu s mým otcem.

Bicycle
(2014, GB, 87 min., režie M. B. Clifford)

Film držitele ceny BAFTA a nadšeného cyklisty vypráví o cyklistice v zemi, která vynalezla moderní jízdní kolo, o jejím zrodu, úpadku a znovuzrození od viktoriánských počátků až po současnost. Ve filmu se prolíná design kola, sport a doprava prostřednictvím ikonických příběhů. Obsahuje rozhovory s osobnostmi jako Sir Dave Brailsford, Gary Fisher, Chris Boardman, Ned Boulting, a také skvělé archivy, animace a hudbu. Bicycle je vtipná a lyrická úvaha o kole a cyklistice a jejím místě v britské národní mentalitě.

Together we cycle/Společně na kolech
(2020, NL, 70 min., režie Arne Gielen, Gertjan Hulster)

Film zkoumá události, které vedly k oživení nizozemské cyklistiky. Mnoho lidí si myslí, že byla v Nizozemsku přirozený fenomén, ale až do 70. let 20. století tamní vývoj kopíroval celosvětové trendy – budoucnost patřila automobilům. Zapotřebí jen bylo přizpůsobit města přílivu aut. Nakonec však Nizozemsko nabralo jiný směr: navzdory předpokladům lidé jezdili na kole dál.
Na otázku, proč se tak stalo, neexistuje jednoduchá odpověď. O hrbolaté cestě, která vedla k současnému stavu, kdy je jízda na kole pro většinu samozřejmou volbou, vypráví ve filmu hlavní aktéři tehdejší proměny.

Cycling the Frame
(1988, DE, 27 min., režie C. Beatt)
V roce 1988 Tilda Swinton objela Berlínskou zeď na kole v doprovodu režisérky Cynthie Beatt. Swinton nás vede na cestu, která začíná a končí u Braniborské brány a je střídavě idylická, surrealistická, rozmarná a depresivní.

Putování rozmanitou krajinou podél bývalé Berlínské zdi. Režisérka Cynthia Beatt a herečka Tilda Swinton znovu sledují stejnou linii, 21 let po jízdě na kole, která byla zaznamenána v dokumentu Cycling the Frame. Tentokrát mohou po obou stranách zdi,
která dříve oddělovala rozpolcené Německo.

Since 2019, the film show All Through the City has been organized by the AutoMat association. This year, due to the 20th anniversary of the association’s operation, we will focus thematically on bicycle transport.

Prequel Přechod (The Crossing)
(2022, Czech Republic, 7 min. 55 s., directed by T. Plavecká)

20 years ago, a man was run over by a car at a pedestrian crossing in Prague’s Čimická Street. It was my dad. I couldn’t walk there for several years because of that. Today I walk it daily. A short poetic experimental film from a place that has special meaning for me is an insight into my relationship with my father.

Bicycle
(2014, GB, 87 min., directed by M.B. Clifford)

The film by the BAFTA award winner and keen cyclist tells the story of cycling in the country that invented the modern bicycle, its birth, decline and rebirth from its Victorian origins to the present day. The film intertwines bike design, sport and transportation through iconic stories. Featuring interviews with the likes of Sir Dave Brailsford, Gary Fisher, Chris Boardman, Ned Boulting, as well as great archives, animations and music. Bicycle is a witty and lyrical reflection on the bicycle and cycling and its place in the British national mentality.

Together we cycle
(2020, NL, 70 min., directed by Arne Gielen, Gertjan Hulster)

The film examines the events that led to the revival of Dutch cycling. Many people think that it was a natural phenomenon in the Netherlands, but until the 1970s, the development there copied global trends – the future belonged to cars. All that was needed was to adapt the cities to the influx of cars. In the end, however, the Netherlands took a different tack: against the odds, people kept cycling. There is no simple answer to the question of why this happened. In the film, the main actors of the transformation tell about the bumpy road that led to the current state, when cycling is an obvious choice for most.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with the filmmakers, the Dutch ambassador and Prague’s deputy mayor for transport Zdenek Hřib.

Cycling the Frame
(1988, DE, 27 min., directed by C. Beatt)
In 1988, Tilda Swinton cycled along the Berlin Wall accompanied by director Cynthia Beatt. Swinton takes us on a journey that begins and ends at the Brandenburg Gate and is by turns idyllic, surreal, whimsical and depressing.

The Invisible Frame

Wandering through the diverse landscape along the former Berlin Wall. Director Cynthia Beatt and actress Tilda Swinton retrace the same line, 21 years after the bike ride that was recorded in the documentary Cycling the Frame. This time they can on both sides of the wall, which used to separate a divided Germany.
