The AutoMat association promotes a better environment for quality life in the city. We support public, pedestrian and bicycle transport as well as the reasonable use of cars. We bring inspiration from European capitals and activate people to positively transform streets and public spaces. We monitor policies and the effective use of public money. Together with you, we create the city in which we want to live.
LAB – We monitor Prague’s transport policy and lobby for its long-term sustainability.
Zažít město jinak – We bring neighbors together and revitalize the public space of cities.
Do práce na kole – We motivate employees to travel to work in a sustainable manner.
Generace U – We educate new generations of children in kindergarten, primary and secondary schools.
The key to improving the quality of life in the city is a modern transport system that will offer all residents good conditions for efficient and pleasant movement around the city. Prague, which mainly supports inefficient car transport today, should offer more varied options for movement.
A reasonable person does not want to waste their time in traffic jams and looking for parking. Most seniors do not use their cars enough and children do not drive cars at all. Even these people have the right to a quality life and safe movement around the city.
Our mission is therefore to support and develop the use of non-motorized transport (by bike and on foot) and strive to improve public transport services.
That is why AutoMat cooperates with municipal politicians, transport experts, architects, non-profit organizations, researchers, artists, urban cyclists, seniors, parents and children – all Prague residents who are not indifferent to the appearance of their city. From the position of an independent supervisor and designer, we are dedicated to the development of infrastructure for bicycle transport, we promote specific measures to increase the safety and friendliness of streets for pedestrians, and we strive to remove various barriers in public space.
We monitor and react to current topics and cases related to the relationship between public space and transport in Prague (primarily large transport structures). We participate in meetings of professional working groups and committees as well as meetings of the Prague council and prepare our own professional studies. We raise comments on the city budget and advocate that the development of various forms of transport, not just car transport, be adequately supported.
AutoMat was created in 2003 as an informal platform, which transformed into a civic association in 2007. Currently, AutoMat is part of a network of initiatives that strive for the development of Prague on the basis of an open society-wide discussion, Ladíme Praha and the association of environmental non-governmental organizations, the Green Circle. We follow our own code of ethics and we also adhere to the Code of Ethics of environmental organizations and the Rules of Transparency of Non-Governmental Non-Profit Organisations
