We invite you to a bike ride in honor of Pup on January 28, followed by a screening

15. 01. 2026, Events

This January marks exactly 20 years since the death of AutoMat co-founder Jan Bouchal, known as “Pup.”

A thirty-year-old father of a young son, tireless promoter of urban cycling, and advocate for transparency in public administration, he died a few days after a tragic accident at the busy Prague intersection of Dukelských hrdinů Street and nábřeží Kapitána Jaroše. Ironically, he had long criticized this location as dangerous and had worked to have it redesigned.

Even 20 years later, thanks in part to Pup’s work, conditions for active mobility in Prague have improved, but “unnecessary” traffic accidents and fatalities still occur. Dozens of families still lose loved ones on their way to school, shopping, or work.

On Wednesday, January 28, we will jointly honor his memory during the January Critical Mass *35. The ride starts at 19:00 at the Rudolfinum, as tradition has it. During the ride, we will also stop at the Bike to Heaven memorial, where you can light a candle.

The ride will end at Holešovická šachta, where at 21:00 we will screen the documentary Auto*Mat (directed by Martin Mareček, produced by Bionaut, 2009).

We look forward to the ride and the afterparty.
