We remember him as a tireless advocate of urban cycling, a proponent of sustainable transport, and a champion of transparency in public administration and the fight against corruption. Through his work, he made a significant contribution to the development of civil society and the non-profit sector in the Czech Republic.<\/h4>\n<p><em>Press release by the associations AutoMat, <a href=\"https:\/\/peskymestem.cz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">P\u011b\u0161ky m\u011bstem<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/zelenykruh.cz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zelen\u00fd kruh<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Jan Bouchal advocated for the development of sustainable transport in Prague, especially cycling. He was a co-founder of the Auto*Mat initiative, focused on reducing car traffic and promoting urban cycling. He was also among the organizers of regular mass bike rides through Prague, during which cyclists drew attention to their rights and called for safer conditions. His efforts contributed to the construction of new cycle paths and green corridors in the capital.<\/p>\n<p>Bouchal was also active in the fight against corruption and in promoting transparency in public administration. He became the informal leader of the Anti-Corruption Alliance, a coalition of non-governmental organizations striving for greater openness in state administration. As head of O\u017eiven\u00ed, he focused on preventing conflicts of interest in Prague\u2019s municipal offices. For his contributions, he was posthumously awarded the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nadacepartnerstvi.cz\/cena-josefa-vavrouska\/osobnosti\/jan-bouchal,-in-memoriam\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Josef Vavrou\u0161ek Award<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ivelo.cz\/30893-byl-odhalen-pomnik-janu-bouchalovi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cBike to Heaven\u201d memorial<\/a> by artist Kri\u0161tof Kintera commemorates Bouchal\u2019s legacy at an intersection in Prague\u2019s Hole\u0161ovice district where the tragic accident occurred. Jan Bouchal died on January 12, 2006, at the age of 30\u2014ironically, at the very intersection he had long criticized as dangerous and had campaigned to have redesigned.
